More Cialdini

OKAY I went on an Ice cream run last night for the kiddies. ( I admit it I indulged also!)

I got to check out what this new supermarket was all about. (see my last post on Social Proof).

Turns out it is an Asian Market. Torrance has a huge Asian community and well there ya go. So maybe the cars were not all about Social Proof. But another Cialdini Principle can be witnessed.

The principle of exclusivity or scarcity. There are not too many markets of this type. So it is a hit within its niche. Scarcity is built on the idea of the less something is available, the more it becomes desireable.

"How To Be more Successful than Reality"

I recently was on my daily walk and went past a new Super  Market that just opened. I am actually pretty excited as it is literally a block and a half away. The Albertsons closed down about a year ago and we have had to drive about 3 miles to the closest market.

Anyway, I was walking across the driveway and the cars were lined up to get in. I looked in the parking lot and it was completely filled.

Hmmm. To the untrained &  easily swayed I would have thought, " my GOD they are making a killing". I remembered that a few days ago before they were even openthat  I noticed the lot was half filled with cars.

Could it be that like a Piano player seeds his Tip Jar, they were seeding the parking lot?

Political Blogs

Or What Not To Do.....

Presidential candidate John Edwards hired two bloggers to "man" his blog which supports his Presidential bid.

His tale is the same that many corporations have traversed in trying to figure out this blog thing.

Instead of hiring staffers who at least can sing the Edwards mantra (read as have been checked out and live and breathe all that is Edwards), he instead hired two wild bloggers that have inflamed a very important demographic that is typically up for grabs. The Catholics.

A religious group that is typically not already "owned" by a party or candidate. Now he has the leader of the Catholic League going after Edwards to expose him for his "double standard", especially since he has refused to fire the two bloggers.

Now, I usually dont talk politics on my Real Estate Marketing Blog. But this isn't really a discussion in politics. It is a lesson in bloggging.

If you run a corporate blog don't have someone who isn't of your ilk write your brand.

If you are a one man army like most Realtors, you are a business.

That is why you won't see House Blogger swapped around for authorship. I don't think the CEO of Pepsi is blogging On Cokes Blog, and vice the versa.

So what did the two bloggers do to inflame the largest Christian group around? They have written what the League considers inflamatory remarks. Certainly Edwards would have never hired them if they would have treated thier blogging as seriously as they do "real world" communications.
