Infiltrating a conversation

I am in the process of writing a rather lengthy piece on how marketers can use the social net to help push along a story. Regardless of intent-good or evil.

Coincidentally, I started getting a series of comments that appears to be from a bubble blog on the positiveonrealestate.com directory of Positive real estate stories. And on this very blog. I first received  a comment on what the poster felt was a bad guy/mortgage professional. It was a good story, but I didn't want to post it because I felt it may be meant as a way to bring negativity on this antagonist. And quite frankly with the blog suits going on I didn't want to post something I really do not have the time to investigate and form an opinion.

So I deleted the post. Interestingly I get a few more comments, now under the name of this particular antagonist/mortgage guy. All listing lending websites and his links I assume.

So, I gotta delete them all as I have a feeling this is part of an attempt to market an opinion that I want no part of.

I thought this interesting enough to post it here for your amusement and more importantly to see how one can market ideas often thru stealth means.

Question: "How Do You Contact Expired Listings?"
By opting into Steves list you can get his tips sent to you on how to "do" the real estate business. The above is a pretty good example of some of his tips. You will recall we had a pretty good podcast conversation with Steve.

Web Two Point Over?

Jason Burby over at Clickz says

Because more corporate sites are looking to "create communities" and "leverage Web 2.0 technologies" in ways that make no sense for their audience. They're caught up in the buzz. Companies are creating community types of content people are interested in with no long-term consideration.

Don't buy the book. We are giving it away as our next
Garage Sale Linking program. This is the first edition and
of course it is used. But it looks brand new.

The book goes to our favorite comment, link, or trackback that we choose between now and Saturday of this week.

Will You Link Bait For Me?

I am getting this question asked of me more and more.
Will you set up a link bait campaign for me?

What is link baiting and what is its core attraction?

Well we salespeople at the heart of it all, love shortcuts. If we can get hundreds of links for a little effort then let's rock n roll.

A Blog's Whisper

Did you know that our medical Doctors get most of their ongoing education from the pharmaceutical Industry? Isn't that the "tail wagging the dog"?

However, similarly most of the "leaders" in real estate marketing online has been the vendors. It has always been this way even pre-internet when I was cold calling expireds.

The Reason for the Real Estate Recession

There I go letting my need for a headline hook to get people to come to the site.

I really do not believe there is a recession. Is there a problem? Yes, perhaps larger than most think.  And it goes way beyond real estate. However, I think a pretty good explanation of how we got here can be learned here in this powerpoint cartoon. (This came to me as email and no-one knows where it came from. I would love to give a link as it is funny, racy (bad words), and extremely informative. By the way any names that may seem similar to anyone or any company shhould not be seen as nothing but satire to educate a general point. The names used in this are obviously generalized, and not meant to imply anything about anyone.)

The Road from There to Here in Real Estate and Mortgage

While the real estate/mortgage meltdown is concerning, especially to all of us who make our living in this space. The real concern that we have to consider is the out of control spending in Congress. The earmarks and entitlements have blown away any increase in tax receipts from the prosperity of the last several years.

Another Winner

Congratulations to Bill Arce for our favorite contribution to http://www.houseblogger.com last week. As part of our Garage Sale Linking program, Bill wins Super Crunching.

Bill helps run Real Estate Latino. This is an emerging demographic that is overtaking most any other demographic in America. So great job Bill on your website, and we look forward to watching you grow.

This week we have a new offering. The book giveaway is Real Estate A La Carte.  If websites like Redfin.com, ForSaleByOwner.com and others have not made you stand up and take notice. Perhaps this book will.

The premise is that the consumer just wants their house sold. And that because of the flow of information, the full fee agency is not necessary. Thus, to compete the author suggests breaking up your commissions into a menu of services. Much like a lawyer might charge.

As Stefan Swanepoel  and I discussed in Part 2 of our interview series, your real estate industry is in an internal debate for standards. Much like Beta and VHS, or DVD and Blue Rey. For the first time ever, it is within the realm of possibility of the MLS being replaced.

Where the pendulum lands is anyones guess. However, if you are in this business it is best to get all sides. This is why Stefan's resource is so important, and fee for service approach is important to know even if you disagree with the model. As they say, "keep your friends close, your enemies closer."
