I am drinking my morning coffee watching the pre-Michael Jackson trial coverage after the gloved one released his opening punch Monday morning in the start of what many say will make the OJ trial look tame.
It hit me that there have been, and will continue to be a University level course in persuasion thru the continuance of this trial. And that this trial is a giant laboratory of persuasion methods being fired across the bows of the prosecution and defense.
It is even more fascinating to witness the publics behavior.
If OJ was any pre courser, fans fwill line up like they will for this weekends Superbowl. Spectators will soon pick their favorite side, MJ or the prosecution. Fueled by the media hype this is a look into the fishbowl of human emotions overtaking human logic.
Geez, fans have even quit their jobs in Europe to travel to Santa Barbara to support the gloved one.
Question? Why would someone in their right mind do this? Because emotions are a lethal vehicle to move people.
On the surface, the facts look bad for Jackson. And if we can be rational, we will realize that the only thing we know is what the spin machine of the Prosecution has fed us, and the spin machine of the Defense has fed us.
However, Jackson has some weapons in his arsenal that he shares with OJ Simpson and ex-President Clinton. Michael has CHARISMA. Heck, I am calling him Michael right? We feel we know him.
And charisma can cause us to feel connected, it causes emotions to overshadow that nagging intuition that keeps trying to remind us about the facts. We all have dealt with this in love right?
So today Michael launches the first punch of the second round of a long fight. The timing is perfect as jury selection/persuasion begins.
Meanwhile, it was reported on KTTV here in Los Angeles, that Geraldo Rivera has interviewed MJ and that he has said the case against Mr. Jackson will fall apart. Well now. If Geraldo says he is innocent......
What will be very difficult is to find a jury that is impartial. Michael Jackson has a charisma that that is amazingly endearing.
We have seen what charisma can do to get one out of the trouble. Our ex president I believe, got off because their was no way, despite (mountains of evidence against him) that congress was going to get rid of Clinton.
His power (charisma) was so overwhelming that right leaning Republicans refused to read the evidence against Clinton. Almost, concurrently we witnessed OJ Simpson get acquitted.
I have been in the presence of both men, and they both are like magnets.
It will be very difficult to beat this charisma as it causes emotional attraction, that is blinding to anything factual.
So why mention this?
If you want to learn how to be persuasive, watch this case. If you want to be persuasive learn how to be charismatic. I believe some people just have it. But you can learn how to be Charismatic.
(I know of several legitimate courses ).
In the end I believe, Jackson will go home free.
Is it because celebrity can buy justice? Maybe, but that isn't really describing what is going on here.
Michael Jackson, is Elvis, Bono, Bill Clinton and more all rolled up into one.
It will be very hard for a juror to look at this guy and not get chills as "ABC" or "Billy Jean", buzzes in their head. It FEELS too good to have to feel bad with a guilty vote.
I am sure the Prosecution will put up some good persuasion, but I doubt they have the fire power to against the good will of a jillion raving lunatics/fans across the world.
Guilty. I have no idea. Unfortunately, regard for a child's welfare will be lost in the shadow of what ultimately will become a District Attorneys struggle to keep control over this trial, while being "upstaged" naturally, by the human condition. Jackson will walk.
My prayer is that this happens only if he is innocent.
Want to be a great real estate sales man. Want to be a great real estate marketer. Study this case. Study dynamics and the struggle for Power. Study the spin. Study the news releases. This is persuasion that usually is not so openly revealed.
