One out of every 115 people, and if you deduct kids, one out of every 85 adults in the U.S. is now licensed to sell real estate.
So we have an over abundance of agents. Walk your dog around the block and you are sure to run into a few competitors. Or are they?
Just because you have an over abunddance of realty licensees does not mean they are transacting. In fact, most of them are noise in the way of your deal.
The harsher reality of real estate sales is that the longer you are in the business, the better your chances of a growing cirlce of influence.
So if you are a newer agent what do you do? You have to work your influence circle to death and go old school. Meaning prospect prospect prospect. The web makes that easier. In fact, I have heard that the web produces mostly first timer leads anyway. Your job is to "steal" them from the veteran Realtor who does not work the internet like you do.
You don't need a website or a blog to beat your competition. You just need to prospect. Visit FSBOS and Expireds day in ad day out. I promise you that after a year you will be one of the top agents in your market. Pick any method. But just do it.
The Vets have their "Circle" in their system. What system do you have to beat this? Blogs, Websites, IDX are just your front end to capture and incubate your leads. And if you find this notion of "capture" distasteful, then "profit" might be an ugly word and I bet you library is full of books about how Stalin & Khrushchev were just misunderstood.
Take this seriously and those agents that you meet at every driveway will just be neighbors and not another guy or gal hell bent to take away your listing or buyer.
