The Contextual Advertising firm, Chitika just released a study whereby they have estimated that that $500 million was generated within the top 50,000 blogs in 2006.
The Blogosphere has significantly increased in popularity within the past few years. This popular Internet resource has quickly become a viable advertising channel for top brands and media planners. To date, there have been little to no studies on the dollar amount spent on advertising in the blogosphere. Using revenue trends and statistics from a representative sample for the 12000+ Chitika publisher network, we estimated the advertising revenue earned by bloggers in 2006.
Chitika is used by many marketers as a way to advertise. It has been seen as an alternative to Google Adsense as an advertising source when Google started getting tough on Adsense Advertisers.
Personally, I do not like running ads on anything other than my secondary blogs. I believe it interferes with branding.
